Factsheet for professionals on childhood conditions
Babysitters and nannies are at the front line in ongoing and prolonged interactions with children.
Often aside from the family the babysitter or nanny maybe the only non relative of the child who sees the child frequently and has a chance to interact and socialise with the child minus the parent(s). This can often mean that the babysitters and nanny is ideally placed to observe and notice communication, socialisation and developmental issues that may need further attention in the child.
For many babysitters and nannies approaching parents with their concerns might seem confronting especially if the parent(s) do not seem to see be aware of want to discuss that there is an issue (health or behaviour) needing addressing.
The Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has produced a series of factsheets for childrens services professionals that you may find of use. More>>
