Babysitterdirectory aims to become the place for Australian families to directly connect with and locate babysitters and nannies to care for their children.
Baby boom in Australia
Australia is in the middle of a baby boom. In 2006 there were 265,900 births registered in Australia, 2.4% more than in 2005. This was the second highest number of births registered in Australia, with only more births being registered in 1971, (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2007).
Childcare – whether formal or informal - is a fact of life of most Australian families. In June 2005, 46% of children aged 0-12 years received some type of child care. Formal care, either alone or in combination with informal care, was used by 21% (711,500) of children. Informal care, either alone or in combination with formal care, was used by 33% (1,104,100) of children aged 0-12 years, (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2007).
Babysitterdirectory was launched in May 2008 in response to this need. It will be updated frequently to reflect consumer needs and channel opportunities.
