Nanny sharing is where the one nanny works for two or more
families. The nanny cares the different families children at the same
time in one family's house. This type of childcare arrangement suits
some families but like all things there are advantages and
disadvantages.
Advantages
Your child has a consistent
carer in a home environment and so maybe less likely to pick up germs
from other children. If your house is the house that is being used to care for the children it means you will not have to do the childcare pick up and drop off. More likely to save money as the cost and administration of nanny position is split between two or more families. Nannies who nanny share are usually paid a little more meaning they maybe more likely to stay in position for longer.
Disadvantages
If one parent changes
their plans or arrangements then it affects the other family or
families. If one parent has issues with the nanny (eg discipline etc) it affects the other family as well even though they maybe content with how things are working out. Need to plan holidays with another family and this can make things difficult. If one family needs to change or cancel the childcare arrangement (eg going on maternity leave and therefore don't need to access care) it affects the other family too who may have to search for another family to nanny share with or else pay the full fee to nanny.
