Tutor, nanny certification compulsory under new laws

Recently reported on the ABC website was the following article:

Self-employed tutors and nannies will need to be certified under new laws to protect children.

From May next year, the certificates will be compulsory and anyone without one will risk a $2,000 fine.

The Minister for Youth, Graham West, says the certificates cost $80 and involve a police check.

"We don't just rely ... on people's declarations, we actually go and do a police check," he said.
